Barcelona youngster Cristian Tello has been linked for a number of months with a potential move to join Liverpool in the Premier League after failing to cement his place in the first team in Catalonia.
However Brendan Rodgers’ Reds will miss out on bringing the 22-year-old one-time capped Spain international to Anfield this month after the attacker came out publicly to express his desire to stay at the La Liga champions.
“Definitively I am staying until June at Barcelona, then in the summer we will see,” Tello told ESPN.
“I am happy here. I’m not playing as much as I did last year, but I’m not giving up."
But, Liverpool could yet have hope as La Liga expert and ‘in the know’ transfer commentator Guillem Balague believes both Tello and his Barcelona teammate Chilean Alexis Sanchez would be allowed to leave the Camp Nou if appropriate offers came in for them.
“Tello is an interesting one…I think Barcelona will listen to offers for him and Alexis. If that's the case, then there will be offers. I know that Tello is willing to go. Liverpool won't be the only team that want him. He will be one of the transfer stories of the summer,” he responded to questions from hopeful fans.
It sounds like Tello is willing to give it one last shot over the remainder of this season, after all leaving a club like Barcelona is a huge step and not one any young player would want to take lightly having had a taste of first team action.
