A selection of the news surrounding Tottenham Hotspur this Tuesday evening.

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has backed youngster Nabil Bentaleb to be considered for a call up into France’s World Cup squad according to the Evening Standard.

The 19-year-old midfielder has featured prominently for Spurs ever since Tim Sherwood took over the reigns as Head Coach and has made six first team appearances so far this season, and suggested that England may even throw their hat in the ring to secure Bentaleb’s services on the international stage.

Sherwood is quoted as saying: ‘If he carries on the way he is at the moment he’ll be knocking at the door for the French World Cup squad.

‘He’s got to make a decision. I’m not sure how much love the French are showing him now.

‘He was in the wilderness. The French would have had to come and scout our Under-21s before, but now he’s not in the wilderness and everyone is starting to know about him.’

The only real transfer news is that it appears midfielder Etienne Capoue will not be leaving White Hart Lane for Napoli after all. It is believed the Serie A side are not prepared to table more than £8m for the player and will look elsewhere according to reports.

Midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson spoke of his delight at Spurs’ performance on Sunday during the 3-1 win against his old club, Swansea City, as the Icelandic international returned from injury.

He’s quoted on the Tottenham website, saying: ‘You are always happy with three goals away from home against a team that can cause anyone problems with the way they pass the ball and attack, but I thought we dealt with that really well.

‘The league is so tight at the moment. People have rightly been talking about how well Liverpool have been doing this season, but now we’re level on points.’
