Another big weekend in the Premier League with the top three winning, the battle for fourth place tightening up with two of the main contenders dropping points, and the relegation battle still looking as tight as ever.
With all that in mind, we look at the heroes of the Premier League weekend who have helped their team’s cause. Some may miss out but that shouldn’t take away from their performances this weekend as we look at five whose contributions proved to be telling.
Chelsea’s man for the big occasion scored a very important hat-trick against Manchester United as they kept up their pursuit of Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. A left-footed strike with the aid of a deflection followed by two poachers’ goals were enough to give Chelsea all three points at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal came up against a pretty spirited Fulham side, meaning they had to work hard for their goals again, and both of them came via Cazorla. One finished off a terrific Arsenal moved, whilst the second followed relatively soon after to double their lead and put the result beyond doubt.
Two girls from Newcastle’s talismanic midfielder ensured they got back to winning ways and ended a losing streak, and his distribution tormented the West Ham defence for much of the afternoon. His first goal was a wonderfully taken finish, and he capped off his performance with a nicely placed free kick.
After facing a new look and threatening Hull City strike force, Bennett did his job at the back by keeping Nikicia Jelavic and company quiet, and came up with a late, crucial header to give Norwich City a massive win at Carrow Road in a tight relegation scrap.
He may have had a helping hand from Ousamma Assaidi, but Puncheon went from villain last week following his embarrassing penalty miss at Tottenham, to hero by scoring what could prove to be a huge goal in Crystal Palace’s season this week in their win over Stoke – which moved the Eagles out of the bottom three.
