Fiorentina approach Man United outcast

Fiorentina have made contact with Manchester United striker Federico Macheda, according to Italian media sources.

Federico Macheda looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford and Fiorentina could head the queue for his signature.

The 22-year-old signed for Manchester United in 2008 having come through the youth ranks at Lazio.

When he signed for United many hoped he would be the next great Italian marksman but the hype proved to be too much for him.

After several spells on loan, Macheda seems to be ready to return to his homeland and his agent has publicly asked the Red Devils to release their grip on him before the summer.

According to Italian website Tuttomercatoweb, Fiorentina are the latest in a string of Serie A sides to express an interest in the Roman hitman.

Sampdoria, Sassuolo and Parma have already reportedly asked after Macheda's availability, but Fiorentina have the financial clout to blow them out of the water.

The Viola are looking for striking options having seen star striker Giuseppe Rossi suffer a serious knee injury that will keep him on the sidelines for at least another two months.

Tuttomercatoweb believes that Fiorentina officials have already met with Macheda's representatives to discuss his future and they are likely to be ascertaining whether he could liberate himself from Manchester United before his contract expires in June.
