Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has already landed Grant Holt on loan from Wigan Athletic, but has been linked with two more strikers today.
Aston Villa boss Pambert saw his side lose a 2-0 lead at Anfield on Saturday, as Liverpool roared back to claim a point. The draw leaves Villa in 10th place, yet still just six points off the relegation zone, and with just 22 goals scored in 22 games, Lambert is making a clear commitment to bringing more goals to the club.
Christian Benteke has suffered something of a slump this season, with the Belgian scoring just six Premier League goals after bursting onto the scene last year. In a bid to spark the 23-year-old back into form, Villa are reportedly pursuing his former Genk and Belgium teammate Jelle Vossen.
Vossen, 24, has been incredibly prolific for Genk, scoring 57 goals in his last three seasons, and has subsequently attracted the interest of a number of clubs. A £4million fee has been speculated for the striker, who would reunite with Benteke in a bid to bring their dynamite partnership to the Premier League.
A season-ending injury to giant striker Libor Kozak has left Villa short of strikers, and Reading star Adam Le Fondre is the latest name to be linked with the club after a frustrating season in the Championship. The former Rotherham striker is the Royals top scorer this season, but has found first-team football hard to come by under Nigel Adkins, and there have been subsequent rumours over his future.
His former boss Brian McDermott had been linked with a swoop to take the 27-year-old to Leeds United, but new rumours suggest that Midlands rivals Villa and West Brom also lining up bids for Le Fondre, who scored 12 goals in the Premier League last season as Reading were relegated back to the Championship.
With rumours of potential in-comings, there will almost certainly be out-goings too, and right-back Alan Hutton has once again been linked with a move away from the club.
Stoke City are the latest club to be linked with a move for the Scottish international, who has featured little at Villa Park over the last two seasons. Loan spells with Nottingham Forest and Real Mallorca did not lead to permanent deals, and the former Rangers and Tottenham man remains on the Villa sidelines – making a move to Stoke very plausible this month.
