Reported Manchester United target Nicolas Gaitan has been speaking about the possibility of leaving Benfica.

Nicolas Gaitan is a player Manchester United fans will be familiar with since he first found his way into the gossip columns when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford.

Since then, the speculation has switched from him to some of his Benfica teammates, or in the case of Nemanja Matic, former teammate.

The Serbian was himself linked with United before he returned to Stamford Bridge, and Gaitan has been speaking to FourFourTwo about that move, along with the possibility of him swapping Portugal for new surroundings.

I am at Benfica, I have a contract until 2016, I want to respect that,” Gaitan is quoted as saying.

However, he then opened the door to a possible move by adding, “If any offer like that which came for Matic…we’ll see.”

So is Gaitan staying or is he going? Well much will depend on any interested parties and if they are interested enough to make a move.

David Moyes reportedly saw Gaitan as “a priority”, according to reports in November, or at least they saw his need for a winger as a priority and then added the Benfica man’s name to the mix for good measure.

But United’s scouting staff have been regular visitors to Portugal so they are certainly looking at someone…or a few people. If Gaitan is one of them, they may be wise to make an offer and then, as the player himself said, we’ll see.
