Ribery hits out at Ronaldo: I deserved to win Ballon d'Or

The Bayern Munich attacker has launched a scathing attacking on the football authorities, claiming the Portuguese forward won due to political decisions.

Cristiano Ronaldo beat Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery to the Ballon d’Or last week, with the Real Madrid man winning the prestigious award for the second time.

Many were campaigning that the Frenchman had a case to be crowned as the world’s best player, after leading Bayern Munich to a momentous treble in 2012-13.

As the Real Madrid man beat him to the Ballon d’Or crown, Ribery has launched a scathing attack on the football authorities – and stated that he should have won the award.

“I won everything I could win with Bayern and individually,” the Bayern man said.

“Ronaldo on the other hand did not win anything. I am not sad that I missed out, but it does hurt a bit. I deserved to win the Ballon d’Or.

“It was clear that Ronaldo would win it. The voting deadline was extended by two weeks. This had never happened before. It wasn’t about football. It was a political decision.

“There are only three Bayern players in the FIFPro team of the year. That’s madness. Thomas Muller deserves to be there, and so do David Alaba, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Arjen Robben. We won five titles and made history.

“And then there’s the absence of Borussia Dortmund players… Where are [Mario] Gotze and [Robert] Lewandowski? This is impossible.”

It sounds like sour grapes from Ribery, but there was certainly a case for the Bayern man to win the crown.
