Piers Morgan couldn’t help himself yesterday as Manchester United were getting beaten at Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The Arsenal super fan revelled in United’s misery and used the result to urge Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to make a big money move for United striker Wayne Rooney, poaching the striker away from the North West.
Although United getting a result yesterday would have helped the Gunners, Morgan seems to have made the request with some understandable logic behind it.
The defeat to Chelsea all but ended United’s hopes of retaining their Premier League crown, pushing them further back in the title race and making it potentially more difficult to get Rooney to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.
It’s very rare that you see two huge sides doing business with each other, especially when they’re rivals, in January but if Arsenal made a massive offer for Rooney, it’s something he and United would have to consider.
However, Rooney’s current importance to this Manchester United squad is demonstrated by their struggles this season.
They really miss him when he’s not in the team as they did yesterday, so if Morgan had the opportunity to reiterate his Tweet to Wenger, the offer Arsenal make would have to be one that United simply couldn’t say no to.
Arsenal were reportedly very interested in Rooney last summer so it's not impossible, just very unlikely.
