How bad was Manchester United's once reliable winger yesterday?
Two seasons ago Antonio Valencia appeared unstoppable, playing a key role as Manchester United pushed City all the way for the title.
While he picked up a league winner's medal last season he was nowhere near as effective and this season he has again been inconsistent.
Valencia's saving grace has been that teammate Ashley Young has regularly been worse while Nani still makes the Ecuadorian appear reliable.
Yet the high profile fixture against Chelsea yesterday once again highlighted the winger's drop off, and his poor man-marking effort on Samuel Eto'o for the striker's third goal was embarrassing to watch.
If defending wasn't his strong suit, crossing really should be, yet he was unable to find a teammate with any attempts.

|Luis Antonio Valencia||4||0|
The winger's season long crossing stats don't make for happy reading either.

While there are more pressing areas in the squad for upgrades, with Wilfried Zaha twiddling his thumbs in the reserves it makes you wonder just why the youngster is not being given a chance above Valencia and Young.
Under-performing midfielder Anderson was moved on last week, and there is talk of a mass end-of-season clearout after what already looks to be a disappointing campaign for United.
With Valencia struggling for consistency and yesterday unable to show his best form it makes you wonder whether his name will be added to the list of players departing in the summer.
While a popular figure at United, and the sort of hard working player you imagine would appeal to David Moyes, the winger can't afford too many more performances like that at Stamford Bridge.
The reaction of these United fans below illustrates underwhelming feeling at his performances...
Plus Valencia needs a spell on sidelines - minimal impact & crosses a 15ft striker would have thrived on. Rather see Zaha get a chance #MUFC— Paul Welburn (@ifiwasarichman) January 19, 2014
Valencia was very poor! Mr.Moyes, it's Zaha time.. Play him and see the results..start with Zaha now please @ManUtd— Tanmay ^_^ (@Tanmay_MUFC) January 19, 2014
Valencia played a big part in both the 2nd and 3rd goals,not well rounded enough,sorry to say thinks its time he goes has some value #MUFC— Cianus (@cianus_ie) January 19, 2014
