Spurs, Napoli disagree on Capoue fee - Liverpool target an alternative

According to the Italian press, Napoli’s pursuit of Etienne Capoue has been beset by difficulties.

Rafael Benitez’s side have been looking to bolster their options in midfield this January – having already captured reported Liverpool target Jorginho from Hellas Verona.

Lyon’s Maxime Gonalons was also on the verge of making the switch to the San Paolo as well until Les Gones president Jean-Michel Aulas pulled the plug on the deal at the eleventh hour.

As an alternative the Partenopei have turned to Spurs’ Capoue – who has made just eight Premier League appearances since moving to White Hart Lane from Toulouse in the summer.

On Friday Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio maintained that Napoli director of sport Riccardo Bigon met with Tottenham officials to discuss a possible transaction, with the clubs’ valuations varying widely.

And Calciomercato has now claimed that the two outfits remain at odds over the fee for the Frenchman – Spurs wanting to recoup the €11m paid for his services whilst the southern Italians are only willing to dole out half this figure.

The Italian source further maintains that the north Londoners also remain keen on a buyback option of sorts – though the exact nature of the desired clause is unclear.

Napoli have reportedly looked to Liverpool target Yann M’Vila as an alternative – though had attempts to include Edu Vargas as part of a deal scuppered by the striker’s rejection of a move to Russia.

Former Arsenal man Alex Song continues to be mentioned in connection to Napoli - though Barcelona don’t look prepared to sell.

Napoli's options are shortening, but the fact they do have an alternative to pursue keeps the cards in their hands with just under a fortnight remaining until the transfer window closes.
