Liverpool news: Reds to step up pursuit for Salah, Lucas injury

Some of the latest transfer news and more involving Liverpool Football Club this Monday morning

Liverpool will step up their pursuit of Basel Mohamed Salah according to several reports in the press. However, the Daily Mail reports that the Reds face still competition from clubs in Spain and Germany. Liverpool value Salah at £7m, but Basel value the winger at double the price.

The Daily Mail also reports that summer signing Tiago Ilori is going on loan to La Liga side Granada. The 20-year-old centre back hasn’t made a first team appearance after signing from Sporting Lisbon in the summer transfer window.

One man Liverpool could be without for a lengthy period of time is midfielder is Lucas Leiva after he limped off with a knee injury during the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at the weekend.

The Brazilian tried to continue after treatment but broke down again, very like the injury that he sustained two seasons ago.

Mamadou Sakho suffered a setback in his injury recovery meaning he didn’t play at the weekend but could return for FA Cup fourth round match against Bournemouth whilst full-back Jon Flanagan is expected to return to full training.

Brendan Rodgers said Liverpool weren’t good enough in Saturday’s draw, and included himself as part of that assessment.

Rodgers said after the game: ‘Probably across the board we were not very good. Myself included.

‘For me, the system is irrelevant. The style will always be maintained to control and dominate games. I felt we could be aggressive and our front two would really give them a problem but we never got control of midfield and we couldn’t really build the game from behind.’
