Don't forget Chelsea man who scored hat-trick against United LAST season

Romelu Lukaku

Samuel Eto'o netted the first Chelsea hat-trick against Manchester United for 60 years...or should that be eight months?

Samuel Eto’o answered his critics in impressive fashion on Sunday, netting a hat-trick against Manchester United to condemn David Moyes’ side to their seventh league defeat of the season.

In so doing, the Cameroon striker became the first Chelsea player to score three goals in one match against United since Seamus O’Connell in 1954.

Only, that is not entirely true.

A Chelsea striker actually netted a hat-trick against United as recently as last season; except he was not technically a Blues player…at least not at the time.

Romelu Lukaku will go down in United history for being the man who spoiled Sir Alex Ferguson’s leaving party.

While the newly-crowned Premier League champions looked like winning Ferguson’s final match at a canter against West Bromwich Albion, the young Belgian had other ideas, subsequently netting a hat-trick rounded off in the 86th minute.

And yes, I know Lukaku was a Baggies player at the time, but he was and continues to be owned by Chelsea so, tenuous link aside, the Blues also had a hat-trick hero of sorts last season.

That is not to take anything away from Eto’o, more to praise a young man who is destined to become one of Europe’s very best strikers.
