Kevin De Bruyne officially completed a switch to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg over the weekend.
Kevin De Bruyne officially completed his move to Wolfsburg over the weekend, which allowed him to return to the Bundesliga and German football.
He was one of Werder Bremen’s best players while on loan with the club last season and that potential got him a well deserved chance in the first team as Mourinho returned for a second spell.
However, he wasn’t able to produce the sort of consistency and level of performance needed to keep him in the side at the start of this season, which saw him slip down to the subs bench and eventually out of the exit door.
No one can blame the 22-year-old for making the decision he did and pushing for a move away from the club.
De Bruyne has spoken over the lack of joy and excitement that he has playing for Mourinho, doubled with the fact he’s trying to make it into a very competitive Belgium squad for the World Cup this summer.
He needs to be playing games to secure his place on the plane to Brazil and it became obvious a while back that he’d have to leave Stamford Bridge to make that happen.
It’s a shame because he was a very popular player with Chelsea supporters for the fight and determination that he showed any time he was fortunate enough to be given the chance to control one side of Chelsea’s midfield.
Fortunately for the Blues, they are well stocked in midfield which means they are unlikely to be hugely affected by De Bruyne’s departure in terms of performance and results but the response from Chelsea fans to the move has been mixed.
Take a look.
Talented but unlucky: wrong time to be at Chelsea. #DeBruyne— Okpako Innocent (@OPK_nolx) January 18, 2014
Wolfsburg have made a quality signing. I reckon they'll get Champions League now. #DeBruyne— George (@georgehm_LFC) January 18, 2014
