Balotelli dedicates Milan win to Seedorf

Match winner Mario Balotelli has dedicated AC Milan's 1-0 triumph over Hellas Verona to new coach Clarence Seedorf.

Clarence Seedorf made a winning start to life on the AC Milan bench thanks to a late penalty from Italian international Mario Balotelli.

Seedorf was brought in to replace Massimiliano Allegri with the Rossoneri struggling badly in Serie A and languishing in lower mid-table.

It's the Dutchman's first coaching job after an illustrious playing career and his first proper outing on the Milan bench was a testing game against high-flying Verona.

But Milan were able to overcome a spirited visiting side with an 82nd minute penalty as Balotelli calmly wrong-footed the goalkeeper to net the match winner.

It was a relief for the ex-Manchester City man who has missed two penalties this term and he was delighted to have handed Seedorf the best possible start.

"It's a victory that we are dedicating to Seedorf," Balotelli said on Sky Sport after the final whistle.

"The first game is the most difficult and in a difficult situation we were able to win it.

"Clarence asked us to play for four attackers and asked us to press immediately when we weren't in possession and it worked because we were able to get the ball straight back."

Milan are 11th in the table on 25 points just behind Genoa on 26 and Lazio on 27. Week 21 sees them travel to Sardinia to face Cagliari.
