Everton ‘have contacted Lazio’ regarding midfielder linked with Liverpool claims Italian journalist

An Italian journalist has claimed that Everton have made contact with Lazio regarding midfielder Ogenyi Onazi.

Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has today claimed that Everton have contacted Lazio to discuss midfielder Ogenyi Onazi.

The 21-year-old Nigerian international was a reported target of the Toffees last summer, and despite nothing coming of that apparent interest, the latest claim suggests Roberto Martinez may now be making a move for the player.

Onazi has also reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool, and when asked about the links earlier this year, he is quoted as saying, “I would jump at the chance to play in the Premier League.

Liverpool? They are a huge team and are attractive to any footballer. I could see myself playing for them.”

But what of their Merseyside rivals? Could they get one over on the Reds by moving swiftly for the player…assuming Brendan Rodgers is even interested, that is?

Onazi has impressed for Lazio this season, making 17 appearances in Serie A to date.

However, he will want to forget today’s match against Udinese. Despite a 3-2 victory, the Nigerian was dismissed for two bookable offences.

For now the rumours remain just that. But Martinez has already shown he is a smart operator in the transfer market, and may be about to bring another talented young player to Goodison Park.
