Reports from Italy last week claimed the agent of Lazio midfielder Hernanes was in England to talk to those clubs interested in his client.
The clubs in question were allegedly Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with a protracted transfer saga reportedly leading to the Italian side’s willingness to see him leave, if someone paid at least €15million for his services.
At 28, the Brazilian is no spring-chicken, but he could be exactly what David Moyes needs – an attacking midfielder who can both score and assist. And as if to prove it, Hernanes came off the bench earlier today to score the winner in Lazio’s 3-2 victory over Udinese.
Lazio were actually 2-1 down with just eight minutes to go, but an own-goal from Andrea Lazzari suggested the match would finish all-square.
That was until substitute Hernanes struck in the final minute, assisted by another reported United target Antonio Candreva.
So while at the moment it is no clearer if United will sign anyone in this transfer window, there are certainly answers out there, if Moyes is prepared to ask the right questions.
