Arsenal and United on alert as 11 goals in 13 games French starlet looks to leave

Antoine Griezmann

Real Sociedad forward has been setting La Liga on fire over the last couple of months, and now admits he wants "to play for a leading European team"

French star Antoine Griezmann has been regularly linked with the giants of European football ever since he burst on to the scene some four years ago.

Possessing raw pace and sublime skill, alongside a developing knack for scoring goals from the wing, the youngster would be a potent weapon in any league in the world. Indeed, in his last 13 league games he has scored a spectacular 11 goals.

Such abilities have long been rumoured to have caught the eye of countryman Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, as well as David Moyes at Manchester United

A transfer away from San Sebastian has seemed unlikely as Griezmann has continued to flourish in theBasque country over the past few months. Only a few days ago he was reported as saying he wanted to stay at Sociedad until the end of the season.

Now however, it appears that the winger has had a change in heart and is ready to move on, with Griezmann admitting that a transfer to a higher profile club may increase the prospects of a call up to the French national team. With a World Cup on the horizon, he may be tempted to push it through this month in the chance he may make a late surge for the squad that heads to Brazil.

The Metro reports that Griezmann was the subject of a failed £12 million bid by the Gunners at the start of the transfer window, and the club may be about to return after the young Frenchman's quotes to RMC.

"I am relaxed about my future at the moment," the Metro reports him as saying.

"I have not had talks [with] other clubs yet. This is something to look at. I want to play for a leading European team and I hope this can help me get a place in the France team."

It is not yet known if Griezmann was referring to a move in this window - or at the end of the season.

The paper continues by claiming Sociedad are holding out for double what the Gunners offered, and with Real Madrid, Manchester United and Monaco all said to be taking an interest, Wenger and Moyes may move as soon as possible to avoid a bidding war.
