Bayern chief: We would never swap Ribery for Ronaldo

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has stated that the European champions would not exchange the French winger for the current Ballon d’Or holder.

Cristiano Ronaldo was a fitting winner of the most recent Ballon d’Or award, beating Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery to the prestigious individual prize.

The Real Madrid forward had a phenomenal 2013 from a personal perspective and was a worthy winner of the award.

However, Bayern Munich supremo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has clearly got sour grapes over the whole process, as the German side’s star Ribery only took third place.

With the Allianz Arena side sweeping all before them last season, many were campaigning that their talisman Ribery should lift the Ballon d’Or for the first time.

However, with the Frenchman having to put up with third place, Rummenigge has come to the defence of the Bayern man.

"Bayern would never swap Ribery for Cristiano,” the chief told Bild.

"When I saw the size of the Cristiano Ronaldo's entourage I realised I didn't need be psychic to predict what was going to happen.”

Given the tight nature of the voting, there are always going to be disagreements over who should win the Ballon d’Or, and it will take a massive effort for anyone to take the award back from Ronaldo in 2014.
