Bayern went on to conquer Germany and Europe in a treble winning season last term - and Arsenal’s away win in the Allianz Arena was one of just three defeats suffered by the Bavarian’s in the entire season.
Yesterday Bayern lost in a friendly against Red Bull Salzburg to give The Gunners some hope ahead of their first meeting on the 19th February - and that win last year will also have their confidence sky-high.
But Bayern had players missing from that game - including arguably their best last season. Franck Ribery was sensational last season - and it even saw the Frenchman linked with a potential Ballon d’Or win this month.
In the end it went to the favourite Cristiano Ronaldo - despite the Portuguese’s efforts rendering him without a single trophy in the 2013 calendar year.
And one man who didn’t agree with that is an Arsenal legend.
Thierry Henry, who scored 228 goals for Arsenal in 377 appearances over two separate spells in North London, has been adamant in interviews this weekend - that the man charged with downing the team where he is considered a legend in a months’ time was the best in the world over the past 12 months.
He stated in an interview with Telefoot:
I found support in France for Ribery was not good. Was a French could have won then Ballon d'Or and he would have deserved it, and especially one who won everything with Bayern. When he was hired for such a trophy, it must bear. He is French. He played in one of the greatest teams in the history of football, because what Bayern did last season was amazing. Franck was more than an actor, so for me he deserved the Ballon d'Or. "
Arsenal fans however will hope the Ribery Henry describes doesn’t turn up in February and March.
