€11m striker Arsenal glad they didn't sign scores a double on debut

Alessandro Matri was at the double this afternoon as Fiorentina won 3-0 v Catania.

In the summer, just like now, Arsenal were linked with many strikers. One of the names that did the rounds was that of Juventus striker Alessandro Matri.

The Italian international had seen Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente arrive at the club in the summer - and decided he would not have much first-team football at the Delle Apli this term.

But he had suitors for his signature other than the North London outfit - and he returned to his boyhood club AC Milan for a €11 million in August of last year.

But things have not so well for the player with the Rossoneri. He featured in 18 games for the club and scored just one goal - and Milan confirmed he was up for grabs this winter after his poor start to life in Milan.

So it was no surprise to see him arrive at Fiorentina earlier this month - to cover the injuries to Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi in Florence.

He signed a six month loan deal with the club recently and made his debut today away to Catania.

But he certainly has had a better start for Fiorentina then he did for Milan.

He bagged a brace today on his debut for the club.

He scored in the 28th and 41st minute for La Viola in a 3-0 win this afternoon.

Maybe Arsenal shouldn’t have paid all that cash for him in the summer, which seems like a bullet dodged - but bringing him in on loan doesn’t look like being a bad move for Fiorentina right now.

Here is his impressive debut brace…
