Adam Johnson proved to be the Sunderland hero for the second weekend running, as his goal secured a point in a 2-2 draw with Southampton.
The Saints took a 2-0 lead courtesy of Jay Rodriguez and Dejan Lovren, but Fabio Borini and then Johnson gave Gus Poyet's men a share of the spoils.
The visitors went ahead in the fourth minute, when Rodriguez struck a low 20-yard shot past Vito Mannone. Lovren then volleyed in from a corner to double the Saints' advantage.
But on-loan striker Borini continued his own recent scoring form, pulling one back for the hosts within a minute. And that was how the game stayed until 19 minutes from time, when Johnson struck a high shot past Artur Boruc.
The result means Sunderland are in the relegation zone only on goal difference, while Southampton remain ninth.
