This winter has seen both North London sides realise they need a striker - with one player in particular catching their eye.
Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has not been a regular feature in the Real Madrid side this season and his obvious talent has shone in the few appearances he has made for Los Merengues and the Spanish under-21 side.
It is Arsenal who have seen themselves linked with the player the most over the past few months - with conflicting reports of will they, they will, they won’t, wont they doing the rounds for a while now.
The idea was that Morata would be on his way to Arsenal on loan until the end of the season - so as he can play regular first-team football and aid his development as a future Madrid starter.
But it seemed that would not be happening the other day when Inter Milan and Benfica were instead enlisted as the apparent favourites for his signing.
However, that also won’t be happening.
Because finally this saga seems to have closure.
Morata was on the scoresheet this afternoon as Real Madrid thrashed Real Betis 5-0 in Seville - and after the game he ended all speculation over his future:
“I'm very happy here, I belong here. I am delighted to be here even if I get few minutes.”
It seems that despite his lack of playing time Morata has no desire to leave the club this month, or at any point in the immediate future.
If Arsenal are looking for striking reinforcements, then they may need to wipe clean the drawing board.
