For a time it appeared Lucas Moura was destined for a move to Manchester United.
Such was the speculation linking him with a switch to Old Trafford that it appeared only a matter of time before the Brazilian winger swapped Sao Paolo for Manchester.
But then French club PSG came in with an offer too good to refuse - €40million to be precise – while the club’s then-sporting director Leonardo was said to have played a huge part in convincing Lucas his future was in Paris.
But things have not turned out quite as the player would have hoped, with Leonardo now departed and minutes hard to come by at the reigning Ligue 1 champions.
In such circumstances are transfer rumours born, and the latest saw the player once again linked with United.
But Lucas’s agent has rejected claims the 21-year-old could leave France this month in a bid to ensure his World Cup place, although things may change at the end of the current campaign.
In an interview with Globe Esporte and published by the Metro, agent Wagner Ribeiro said, “Lucas is not playing as much as we have hoped, that is true.
“But it's not part of our plans to leave PSG now. He has had some chances in the team, and we will look at the situation again at the end of the season.”
Given his talent, and United’s need for a player of his quality, he would be an automatic starter for the Red Devils. But it seems that if Moyes does want him as much as his predecessor reportedly did, he will have to wait at least until the summer...after a World Cup the young player will be desperate to star in.
