£37m Arsenal target spotted in Munich - Should the Gunners be worried?

Bayern Allianz Arena

No is the answer, as Julian Draxler is simply in Munich for treatment with Bayern Munich's team doctor for a hamstring injury.

This week has seen Arsenal heavily linked with the signing of Schalke 04 playmaker Julian Draxler - as they reportedly eye up a move to meet his summer release clause of £37 million.

Draxler has spoken in the past of his admiration for Arsenal and he represents the type of player Arsene Wenger is always keen to add to his squad. Young, adaptable and technically gifted he is the archetypal Wenger signing.

Yesterday however, reports of a potential sighting of Draxler at the Arsenal training ground received short shrift from the Gunners manager - in his usual droll and sarcastic manner:

"That is like an unidentified flying object -- some see them everywhere. Are we close to signing anybody? At the moment I would say no."

But should Arsenal fans be worried about where Draxler has been spotted in recent days?

Draxler has been in Munich.

If there is one team that strikes fear into any other club in Europe right now it is the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. Easily the best team on the continent right now, backed by pools of well organised cash and with Pep Guardiola at the helm - they are simply the best.

So to hear that Draxler has been heading to Bavaria to meet with a member of Bayern staff week-in-week-out is not likely to be received well by fans who want to see him at their club.

But for now, they need not fear.

Draxler has only been visiting Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wolhfahrt - the Bayern Munich team doctor. But as well as making sure the likes of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben are OK he is a freelancer - working with the likes of the German national team, Usain Bolt and Harry Kewell.

Draxler is visiting the super doc once a week for treatment on his hamstring problem. Muller-Wolhfarht is credited with solving Michael Owen’s early hamstring problems - and is reportedly helping Draxler recover from his injury quicker than expected.

He reportedly has to return to Munich in a fortnight - at which point he will hopefully get the green light to begin playing again.

Arsenal will just hope Draxler doesn’t like his trips to Munich a little too much.
