Transfer talk: DONE DEAL - Long signs; Anderson has medical and Bertrand loan

Shane Long

Transfer news from Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa, West Brom, Hull City, QPR, West Ham and Manchester United.

Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand has joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season. The 24-year-old seemed to be heading for the first team when he played in the Champions League final in 2012 - but has since seen his first-team opportunities diminish.

This season Jose Mourinho has preferred Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back - and therefore the England international has been told he can make his move.

Villa need cover in the left back position and Paul Lambert is happy with his signing:

"Ryan brings a lot of big-game experience, not only in the Barclays Premier League but even a Champions League final which Chelsea won, so he'll be really good for us.”

A fresh picture of Manchester United midfielder Anderson has appeared on Twitter - this time he is having his medical at Fiorentina.

The Brazilian is snapped undergoing an ECG with doctors present as he undergoes a stringent MOT test on his suitability for a transfer to Florence.

He is expected to sign a loan deal until the end of the season - at which point a permanent switch will be discussed.

DONE DEAL: Hull City have signed Shane Long from West Bromwich Albion. A fee for the player was agreed yesterday but now The Tigers have posted a picture of the Irish striker on Twitter holding up his new shirt - and reportedly cost in the region of £6 million.

Long will wear the number 21 shirt.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has denied making an approach for West Ham striker Modibo Maiga.

The Malian international was said to be on the verge of a loan spell to the Championship club - but Redknapp, despite admitting he was fond of the player, denied such speculation:

“We've not asked to take him on loan and the lad hasn't refused to come on loan. He's a good player, a good lad as well, but I've had no discussions with Sam regarding the lad at the moment. He's an interesting player for sure.”

Finally and a great line from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger regarding their interest in Julian Draxler.

The club have been heavily linked with a move for the German international this week - and reports he was spotted at the clubs training ground were even being reported.

But Wenger laughed those suggestions off:

“That’s like an unidentified flying object - some see them everywhere. I am curious as well, but the transfer period lasts until the 31st of January. Are we close to signing anybody? At the moment I would say no.”
