The top five players linked with signing for Arsenal this week: Draxler, Mandzukic and more

Atletico Madrid, FC Schalke, Bayern Munich, Saintt Etienne and Auxerre stars all feature.

Arsenal are in a great position in the Premier League but the Gunners remain linked with some of the best players across Europe, as Arsene Wenger mulls over whether to strengthen his team for the second half of the season.

The Gunners can afford big money transfer fees and they could do with additions in particular areas such as attack and through the centre of defence. Here’s a summary of the top five players they’ve been linked with this week.

1) Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid)

Costa has appeared on this list throughout January as the Gunners continue to be linked with the £32 million rated striker. The latest update suggests that Chelsea could move for him first, which may prompt Arsenal into action.

2) Julian Draxler (FC Schalke)

Draxler will be a familiar name with any Arsenal fan following the press this week. Arsenal will have to pay €45.5 million to trigger his release clause from the German club and they may have to wait until the summer to get him. Per Mertesacker has said he would welcome the 20-year-old to the club.

“Players like him are welcomed here. Julian Draxler has a great influence on Schalke and the Germany team, despite his young age. But let's wait and see what happens. A lot of players have been talked about in the past,” the defender told

3) Mario Mandzukic (Bayern Munich)

An alternative striker target for the Gunners is Bayern Munich star Mario Mandzukic. Reports have suggested his departure following the news that Robert Lewandowski will move to the Allianz in the summer. However, Bayern president Karl-Heinze Rummenigge has said he’s staying put.

“We are absolutely content with Mario Mandzukic. He has outperformed our expectation and we will keep him at Bayern Munich,” he told the press.

4) Kurt Zouma (Saintt Etienne)

Arsenal’s French scout recommended the 19-year-old defender to Arsene Wenger but this could be another battle against London rivals Chelsea. His agent has confirmed talks with English clubs but the latest updates suggest Zouma could snub the Gunners and move to Stamford Bridge.

5) Paul-Georges Ntep (Auxerre)

This is another name to have appeared in this feature already this month. The second division French club have confirmed they are yet to receive a formal offer for the £7 million rated 21-year-old striker.
