German side Hamburg look set to complete the loan signing of Benfica's Ola John.
Dutch winger Ola John looks set for a move to Hamburg in the Bundesliga according to German newspaper Bild.
The winger has been suggested as a possible target for Liverpool with Brendan Rodgers keen to improve the attacking elements of his squad ahead of the second half of the season.
However, it now looks like an odds on certainty that the 21-year-old will join the Bundesliga team over the second half of the season.
“He hasn’t found his big break at Benfica. In the current season Ola John played just 121 minutes in the Portuguese league. On Friday Ola John comes to Hamburg for a medical,” reads the report in Bild.
John has made just eight appearances for the Portuguese giants in all competitions this season, with five of them coming as a substitute which suggests he was bound to leave for more regular football at some point this month.
While the news is a blow to Liverpool, it’s not the end of the world because the side remains in a good position and there is plenty of time left in January if Rodgers wants to bring in an additional winger.
However, he already has a good variety of wide men to choose from with Raheem Sterling and Victor Moses out and out wingers in the squad and Luis Alberto, Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho all having played wide roles at some point this season.
Liverpool are staring at a great chance to secure Champions League football this season and there’s every chance they could bring in someone with more experience, more talent and more goals and assists to his name.
