Napoli director in London to complete Capoue deal

Napoli

Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon is set to fly to London today to finalise the signing of Tottenham midfielder Étienne Capoue.

It would seem that these are Étienne Capoue's last few hours as a Tottenham Hotspur player as Napoli close in on a deal for him.

Napoli have been linked with the French international for some time and the two clubs have been progressing gradually in talks.

Although Capoue only arrived at White Hart Lane last summer, he has failed to settle in the Premier League and isn't a crucial figure in Tim Sherwood's plans.

For Napoli it is important to galvanise the squad after an impressive start to the season fizzled out somewhat largely due to a lack of strength in depth.

Coach Rafa Benitez has publicly stated that club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has promised him at least two signings and Capoue is set to be the first.

It is reported that Napoli director Riccardo Bigon is boarding a flight to London later today and will meet with Spurs officials to finalise the terms of the transfer.

The player's agent Mino Raiola has given the provisional green light but the fee is still being discussed, although the two clubs are believed to be thinking along the same lines.

Tuttomercatoweb claims that Napoli want to pay around £7.4m but Tottenham are asking for closer to £8.5m - these are details that should be easily sorted out in a meeting.

Napoli have been very active in the market and are also closing in on Verona star Jorginho and ex-Lyon man Michel Bastos.
