A round up of the latest news and transfer stories about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
ITV has run a story suggesting Paris Saint-Germain will make a €42 million offer for Luis Suarez. The story suggests PSG want him to partner Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic but doesn’t appear to take his recent comments into account or the much larger release clause in his contract.
Defender Mamadou Sakho and midfielder Joe Allen are in line to make returns to the first team against Aston Villa this weekend. Daniel Sturridge is also available but it’s unclear whether Brendan Rodgers will stick with Luis Suarez up front or switch back to starting with two front men.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists his team are in the Premier League title race. Liverpool have slipped behind Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea but the boss thinks the side still has a chance of winning the league.
“We’ve got all those teams to play at home, and we’re only six points off the leaders, so you have to feel that we are (still in the title race), and we have the confidence and belief in ourselves,” he told LFC TV.
Former Liverpool star Jan Molby has suggested that Suarez, in combination with the other attacking talent at the club, can paper over the cracks of a fragile defence which was exposed at Stoke last weekend.
“The way we play means we possibly sacrifice a bit of defensive solidity in order to continue bringing the best out of our strikers – The firepower of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge will keep us in the hunt for the Champions League spots until the end,” he wrote in the Liverpool Echo.
Barcelona forward Cristian Tello has ruled out leaving the club on loan this month. The 22-year-old has been linked with several loan moves away from the Nou Camp with Liverpool linked as a possible destination.
“I will definitely stay at Barcelona until June, then we will see in the summer,” he told Marca.
TalkSport has suggested Liverpool will make a summer move for Lazio midfielder Antonio Candreva. The 26-year-old has been one of the Italian side’s most consistent players this season with a record of four goals from 19 appearances so far.
Liverpool defensive target Carlos Zambrano has turned down a new contract at Eintracht Frankfurt according to the Daily Mirror. Liverpool have reportedly been scouting the Peruvian with stories from last summer suggesting Liverpool were interested in doing a deal.
Liverpool are set to miss out on signing former star Tom Ince. Several reports have suggested that Ligue One side Monaco are close to doing a deal for the England under-21 international. If the move goes through then Ince will move for just £155,000.
In other news, Liverpool have agreed a ‘multi-year’ partnership with the Dunkin’ Brands Group, Inc. The point of the partnership is to help Liverpool expand their global presence.
“We’re delighted to be joining forces with Dunkin’ Brands, one of the world’s most iconic names. Dunkin’ Donuts will be our official coffee, tea and bakery provider,” said Billy Hogan, the club’s chief commercial officer.
