The central defender hasn’t fared as well as hoped under new Nerazzurri boss Walter Mazzarri – moving in and out of the starting eleven with 14 appearances to his name.
Ranocchia had been heavily linked with a Premier League switch in the build up to the January transfer window – with Tottenham and Manchester United each mentioned.
The latest reports have suggested that Chelsea are on the trail of the Italy international – whilst Galatasaray are believed to have sent scouts to view him live at the weekend.
Yet it’s the German giants who have emerged as prime suitors – according to Italian sources – looking for cover in a central defence corps that has been hit hard by injuries.
TuttoMercatoWeb have maintained that Ranocchia gave the go-ahead for negotiations with Dortmund on Wednesday, with some progress already made.
Die Schwazgelben are understood to have offered €7m for the 25-year-old, though Inter are keen to come away with €15m - or €13m at least.
Ranocchia’s contract at San Siro expires in June 2015, giving the Westfalenstadion outfit the upper hand in talks – an advantage that could see the Nerazzurri eventually accept as little as €10m for their man.
Inter invested a total of €19m in the defender to take full ownership of his rights from Genoa in 2010 – so would be accepting a deficit in investment in selling him on at a significantly lower price.
Yet the Nerazzurri are known to have to sell to buy this January if new acquisitions are to be brought in – with a particular possibility that Ranocchia’s sale will be used to fund a move for Lazio playmaker Hernanes.
