The official line is that Paul-Georges Ntep is injured. However it is reported he has been left out as a transfer approaches.
Auxerre president Guy Cotret says Arsenal are not interested in Paul-Georges Ntep. The talented forward recently posted a picture of himself on the Eurostar to London - fuelling rumours of an Arsenal switch being imminent.
“Arsenal have not even expressed an interest. We just received one offer for the player and it was Rennes.”
In the past Ntep has openly courted Arsenal while Arsene Wenger has also spoke highly of the talented player - but despite conflicting reports it seems that his visit to London last week was to meet with officials from QPR over a potential switch.
The interest from Rennes is now apparently gone as they have failed to meet the Ligue 2 club’s valuation for the talented forward - said to be in the €10 million region.
Interest is also reported from French rivals Saint-Etienne, Lille and Olympique Marseille - but QPR are now considered the front-runners to sign the talent - as a potential successor to Loic Remy, currently on loan with Newcastle United.
Auxerre are in action tonight - taking on relegation threatened Nimes at the Stade des Costieres. But one player who will not be in attendance is there top-scorer and wantaway star.
Ntep is said to have a ‘bruised toe on his left foot’ by the club - but we have all seen this before. The player in the midst of a transfer rumour suddenly picks up a small, but game preventing injury.
Excuse my scepticism and cynical nature but we all know how football works.
Those views are echoed by local French paper Republican Yonne - who state that he will also miss the game because he is…
“…especially destabilized by a possible transfer…”
It certainly seems as though Ntep’s future is becoming evidently clearer by the day - and that future lies away from the Stade l’Abbe-Deschamps.
Whether it lies at Loftus Road or even The Emirates remains to be seen.
