The transfer saga surrounding Auxerre striker Paul-Georges Ntep has taken yet another twist, with a French source claiming a deal is imminent despite denials from the club's president - all in the same 24 hours.
Are Arsenal interested in French U21 international striker Paul-Georges Ntep or not? It depends on which source is to be believed, with Auxerre president Guy Cotret issuing a denial this earlier today, a day where another source claimed otherwise.
Ntep has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League leaders after the player posted a picture of himself on Instagram with his Eurostar train ticket – with the heading: ‘going to London’
The picture went viral on the internet, with many sources and contacts suggesting different stories – including current Rennes youth player Ousmane Dembele claiming an agreed Arsenal transfer to be loaned back out to his club, which the Rennes president firmly also refuted.
One situation that remains clear is that Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal are in desperate need of a new striker following their much reported injury problems regarding their striking options, yet Auxerre president Guy Cotret today confirmed that Arsenal had no interest in the player. Ntep, a former teammate of Yaya Sanogo is also unlikely to be a player ready to make a major impact immediately.
‘Arsenal has not even expressed an interest. We just received one offer for the player and it was Rennes.‘
However, contradicting reports from an Auxerre media outlet has suggested that the 21-year-old forward, who has netted seven goals in 17 league appearances this campaign, is ‘within hours’ of sealing a €10m move to The Emirates.
The French sources go on to suggest that the two sides are about to enter the final stages of discussions to iron out a few details, and that the contract is going to be a 5-year deal.
Moreover, Serbian striker Nikola Stojilkovic has already been lined up as the Frenchman’s replacement, stoking more fires into this apparent agreement.
So which source is correct? Only time will tell but we can all be certain that a few more contradicting stories over this exciting transfer saga will come to the surface over the next few days
