Kurt Zouma, a 6ft 3inch central defender is beginning to make a name for himself around Europe after some mature displays at the heart of St-Etienne’s defence. Despite serving a lengthy ban for a bad challenge, Zouma has started 10 Ligue 1 games – making over 100 clearances.
St-Etienne’s 19-year-old youth academy product was recently reported by Italian press to be in the middle of a three-way battle for his services
Zouma’s agent David Venditelli confirmed those clubs as Inter Milan, Monaco and Premier League side Chelsea.
'It’s a three-horse race between Inter, Chelsea and Monaco. Serie A is an interesting destination, as are Inter, for the tactical growth of the lad'
'Of course he wouldn’t mind moving to the Premier League, hopefully to Chelsea, where he could work with Jose Mourinho or to Monaco in Ligue 1'.
Yet new French reports now suggest that London-based side Chelsea is the destination which fascinates Zouma the most, with the Frenchman quoting the following:
‘A departure this summer? That’s up for my club and my reps to decide. For me it’s clear, I want a change.’
‘Chelsea is a club I have loved since I was little, plus blue is my favourite colour. I will go where the wind takes me!’
‘If you told me I could go to Chelsea, I would go straight away! Especially after my chats with the manager.’
Kurt Zouma’s comments regarding his chats with the manager would suggest that he has already been in touch with Jose Mourinho, as the Blues’ boss will need to resolve the futures of both John Terry and David Luiz.
Whilst a deal during the January transfer window seems unlikely to happen, Zouma’s comments should be enough to persuade Jose Mourinho to follow up his interest and thrash out a deal for the youngster over the summer.
