Étienne Capoue is edging closer to a White Hart Lane exit with Italian newspaper ll Mattino claiming that the French midfielder has given his consent to a transfer to Napoli.
Sherwood appears to be keen to streamline his squad and Napoli have been lining up a swoop for Capoue for several weeks.
There have been rumours about a possible deal for some time but today's Il Mattino insists that Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon has provisional agreements from Spurs and Capoue.
The remaining issue to be resolved is the exact terms of the move as Il Mattino reports that Napoli would ideally get Capoue on a loan with a permanent switch to be reviewed in the summer, while Spurs want an outright sale.
The North London side apparently feel Capoue is worth at least £8.3m, which may be a sticking point for Napoli, but club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has made it clear that he has money for reinforcements.
Il Mattino concludes by suggesting that Napoli will run a strict medical on Capoue as he hasn't seen much game action for some time.
Spurs paid £9.3m to sign Capoue from French club Toulouse last August after a deal with Cardiff City fell through, but he has played a peripheral role.
