Prior to the January transfer window, we ran a list of the players that SkyBet had tipped Liverpool favourites to snap up in the following month and what odds they had been given.
January was considered quite a big month for Liverpool and was considered to be a opportunity for them to build on their magnificent start to the season. Although, being renowned for keeping his cards close to his chest Brendan Rodgers gave very little away about his potential transfer activity.
Therefore, going into the January transfer window it didn't give the bookies much to go on. And because of that, they were only named favourites to sign two young English talents.
Derby County's Will Hughes was priced as 3/1 for a move to Anfield, the club he supports and Ryan Bertrand was priced at 6/1 to leave the Stamford Bridge bench in search of first team football.
And the clubs transfer activity since then has reflected in stance the bookmakers took on them before the window. As they've allowed three academy prospects leave, but as of yet haven't brought anybody in.
However, the current markets indicate Sky Bet are more convinced the Merseyside club will enjoy transfer activity in the second half of the window.
Although they are only favourites to sign four players, the odds on each of player indicates that there is very real chance of each of them signing.
See the updated list below:
4/11 - Will Hughes
1/2 - Cristian Tello
7/2 - Pedro Rodriguez
5/1 - Martin Montoya
Derby County's Will Hughes is still favourite and this is largely expected due to the clubs reportedly agreeing to a first option deal on the player in exchange to Andre Wisdom spending the rest of the season on loan.
Although a talented young player, the recent high pressure matches on television have shown the England U21 star to look flat-footed and overwhelmed. So I must admit I would be very surprised to see Liverpool pull the trigger on that potential deal this month.
So the more exciting prospects for Liverpool fans is undoubtedly the Barcelona trio of Tello, Pedro and Montoya.
Brendan Rodgers has worked hard in his time at Anfield to try and change the shape and mentality of the side, in order to impose a more slick, short passing style game. By their very nature, the three Barcelona players have been taught the same principles as what Rodgers teaches and could be expected to come in from day one and improve their game.
It's worth noting that with BetVictor Liverpool have been named heavy 1/4 favourite to land long-term target Mohamed Salah. Under the same bookmakers Liverpool were also named favourite to land Salomon Kalou at 4/1, but SkyBet felt differently and named Tottenham favourite for his signature.
