Queens Park Rangers are keen on West Ham United man, Doncaster Rovers in for Leicester City striker, Kevin Phillips signs with Foxes, Nottingham Forest lose Chelsea midfielder and Wigan Athletic negotiate 'attractive' offer with Reading target.
1) Queens Park Rangers are reportedly in for West Ham striker Modibo Maiga, as claimed by The Mirror. QPR have been linked to several strikers already this window and could just be sounding out as many potential targets as possible before pulling the trigger on one or two of them. Harry Redknapp has made no secret of his search for a front man, citing it has been unfair on Charlie Austin so far this season.
I understand Leicester & Doncaster are in discussions about the possible transfer (permanent signing) of Martyn Waghorn #lcfc— Sean Taylor (@SEANTAYLORpress) January 15, 2014
Along with the Doncaster Rovers interest, the 23-year-old is reportedly attracting attention from long-term admirer Nigel Clough, currently at Sheffield United. Clough chased the Foxes striker on a number of occasions whilst in charge of Derby County, so it looks like Rovers may have to act fast to stave off interest.
3) With Waghorn possibly leaving, Leicester City have acted quick and signed 40-year-old Kevin Phillips on a short-term deal until the end of the season. The veteran striker scored the winning penalty for Crystal Palace to send them into the Premier League last season and Nigel Pearson will be hoping for a similar impact at the King Power Stadium.
4) Nottingham Forest have allowed Chelsea starlet Nathaniel Chalobah to return to Stamford Bridge after his current loan deal ran out. It hasn't been a joyful campaign so far for the 19-year-old midfielder, but rumours suggest there is many more Championship offers waiting on the table for him, so it won't be long before he gets another chance to prove himself.
5) Wigan Athletic have indicated they are ready to make midfielder Ben Watson an 'attractive' offer but has reiterated there is a limit to how far the Lancashire club can go. QPR and Reading have been linked with the FA Cup winner but it seems are very keen to sort out a deal as soon as possible, rather than run the risk of losing him for nothing.
