PSG consider summer move for long-term Chelsea target – report

The big-spending Ligue 1 side have been keeping tabs on Lazar Markovic, who was once thought to have signed for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Chelsea have raided Benfica this week to bring former midfielder Nemanja Matic back to west London in a big-money deal.

The Portuguese outfit have strong links with the Stamford Bridge side, with David Luiz and Ramires also moving from the Estadio da Laz to the Blues.

Another of Benfica’s stars has close links with Chelsea, as Lazar Markovic is believed to be a player that Jose Mourinho’s men have been keeping a very close eye on.

The Serbia international rose to fame at Partizan Belgrade, with confusion over his destination upon his transfer away from the eastern European club, with reports that he was Chelsea bound.

Despite the Premier League giants keeping an eye on the skillful attacker, Markovic joined Benfica in the summer, and has impressed in his first season with the Portuguese outfit.

The Serb’s performances in the Champions League have been accomplished, and he has played his part in lifting Benfica to the top of the Primeira Division this season with three goals in 12 outings.

However, despite Chelsea still monitoring Markovic, a report in Eurosport today is claiming that Paris Saint-Germain have also been impressed with the wideman and are weighing up a move for him.

PSG and Benfica played against each other in the Champions League group stage, with Markovic having a key role in the Portuguese outfit’s 2-1 victory over Laurent Blanc’s men at home.

The report suggests that PSG are considering matching the star’s release clause, which is in the €40 million region.

However, it goes on to state that any potential deal would be concluded in the summer rather than mid-season.
