Match to be played on Sunday 19th January 2014 at 13:30. Venue: Liberty Stadium, Swansea.
Tottenham could be a top four team if they beat Swansea City this weekend and other results go their way.
Spurs come off the back of a 2-0 win at home against which will give the side plenty of confidence and the fans plenty of belief.
Tottenham have been lifted in the recent past with Younes Kaboul closing on a return from injury, but this is likely to be a game too soon for the central defender to feature.
Here’s the side head coach Tim Sherwood could go with.
GK – Hugo Lloris
Lloris is the undoubted number one at the moment and made recent comments about being the master of his penalty area. Spurs fans would settle for a commanding performance in all aspects.
RB – Kyle Walker
Walker is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League at the moment. Sherwood will urge him to get up and down the right wing throughout the game, providing support in attack and consistency in defence.
CB – Michael Dawson
Dawson is a very important figure for the Tottenham defence. He’s a leader in the back four and will have a big role to play in lifting the team should Swansea get on top early.
CB – Vlad Chiriches
With Kaboul unlikely to feature and Jan Vertonghen still out with an ankle problem, Chiriches will continue in the heart of the defence. He’s getting more used to the pace and style of Premier League football and Tottenham can trust him.
LB – Danny Rose
Rose still looks a little raw as a left-back but he’s improving. His pace is important both going forward and also getting back into position when Spurs are threatened by counter attacks.
RM – Aaron Lennon
The temptation for Sherwood will be to get Andros Townsend back into the team but Lennon continues to perform well on the right of midfield. His pace and threat in the final third are impressive.
CM – Nabil Bentaleb
This will be a big test for the youngster if he starts. Sherwood clearly sees something in Bentaleb which has seen him thrown into the side and it’s up to the youngster to pay back on that faith.
CM – Mousa Dembele
Dembele will offer a lot of strength in the middle of the team. It’s important he announces his presence early because the Swans are a team that like to dominate possession through the middle.
LM – Christian Eriksen
Eriksen has been in good form since he was injected back into the team by Sherwood. He’ll come inside to a central position when Rose gets forward but he has the ability to completely control the left wing.
ST – Emmanuel Adebayor
Adebayor is an important figure in various aspects. He’ll be crucial if Tottenham are forced to play a long ball game and he’ll also be vital inside Swansea’s final third if it’s a tight game decided by a half chance.
ST – Roberto Soldado
Soldado will play right at the very top of the attack, on top of the Swansea defence, as he tries to create space for the likes of Adebayor, Eriksen, Lennon and others to exploit.
