Predicted Chelsea XI to play Manchester United - Matic to start instead of David Luiz

Match to be played on Sunday 19th January 2014 at 16:00. Venue: Stamford Bridge, London.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho could hand a start to new signing Nemanja Matic as the Blues look to keep the pressure up on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

While Manchester United haven’t been anywhere near their best this season, this won’t be an easy game for Mourinho’s men and the Portuguese coach will have to select a very strong team.

Here are the eleven players Mourinho could go with.

GK – Petr Cech

Cech is a reliable part of the defence and someone Mourinho knows he can trust in goal. Only a freak injury will stop him taking his regular number one slot.

RB – Cesar Azpilicueta

Azpilicueta is a model professional at Chelsea. He gets his head down and works hard wherever he’s asked to play and he will continue in the absence of Branislav Ivanovic at right-back.

CB – Gary Cahill

Cahill is an important part of the Chelsea back four and a player who reads the game well. He’ll carry a strong physical presence against a United attack which will look to pull him out of position.

CB – John Terry

Terry provides the experience in the back four. United may try and exploit his lack of pace but that’s a tactic Terry is now savvy to and something he can compensate for with his positioning and anticipation.

LB – Ashley Cole

Cole also provides solid experience in defence. He’ll also be crucial in terms of getting forward and allowing Eden Hazard to move in off the left hand side of midfield.

RM – Willian

Willian has improved in recent weeks after an unconvincing start to his Chelsea career. He’s playing well as a winger and he’s also getting into good positions to offer an extra goal threat.

DM – Nemanja Matic

Matic played for Benfica last weekend so he is match fit and he will have training sessions ahead of the game. He’ll protect the defence and try to make it difficult for United to put together any momentum.

CM – Ramires

Ramires is a very good player in terms of controlling the pace and tempo of the midfield play. He also has the experience to drop off and can aid Matic if Chelsea are under pressure.

AM – Oscar

Oscar has been very productive at the top of Chelsea’s midfield this season. He’s a great player when it comes to linking up various parts of the side and he can hurt United in a second if they lose concentration.

LM – Eden Hazard

Hazard is producing arguably the best form of his Chelsea career at the moment. He’ll work well with Cole on the left and is proving difficult for the opposition to pick up when he moves inside.

ST – Fernando Torres

Torres will be confident after his goal against Hull. He also has his Liverpool history which helps him to naturally raise his game against United. He’ll give everything in terms of work ethic and passion.
