Influential attacker Neymar was carried off after 28 minutes of Barcelona's Copa Del Ray match with Getafe with a painful looking injury to his right ankle.
The full diagnostics of the injury won't be confirmed until the player has gone through extensive medical treatment due on Friday. However, the signs don't look good for one of Barcelona's and Brazil's key players. According to initial test, it's a suspected sprained right ankle.
Manchester City are first up for Barcelona in the Champions League knockout stages and the unfortunate injury to Neymar could no doubt boost the Premier League's side's chances of progressing in the tournament.
The 21-year-old Brazilian has scored 11 goals in 26 games for Barcelona this season, which includes a Champions League hat-trick against Scottish champions Celtic. He has been widely regarded as one of Barcelona's top performers this season and they will undoubtedly miss his presence in attack for the duration of his injury.
If the initial assessment proves to be correct, then Barcelona will be able to breathe a sigh of relief. However, if the injury does prove to be as bad as it looked then Barcelona's form could undoubtedly suffer as a direct consequence.
