Cortese exit could push Osvaldo to Inter

The departure of Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese could lead striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo to sign for Inter, according to reports in Italy.

Former Roma marksman Pablo Daniel Osvaldo has been heavily linked with Inter in recent weeks and his position at Southampton may have become more tenuous with the exit of chairman Nicola Cortese.

Osvaldo made a name for himself at Roma but he has struggled to settle in the Premier League with Southampton and it has been suggested that the English lifestyle doesn't agree with him.

Inter had been considering a switch in January but it was widely reported that Southampton wouldn't consider a transfer in the winter window.

But according to Sportmediaset, the resignation of Southampton's Italian chairman Cortese could change Osvaldo's position at the club.

Rather than an outright sale, a paid loan is the most likely possibility and Inter allegedly sent Southampton a request for a temporary deal several weeks ago.

The report states that Indonesian investor and Inter club owner Erik Thohir is ready to send Piero Ausilio and Marco Branca to England to try and broker a deal.

Italian international Osvaldo signed for Southampton for £12.8m last August and has netted three times for the Saints in 13 outings.
