Fabio coentrao is focused on playing for Real Madrid according to manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Manchester United transfer target Fabio Coentrao had a mixed evening last night as Real Madrid secured a 2-0 Copa del Rey win over Osasuna.
The left-back started in the Real Madrid defence but his performance was scarred by the second yellow card he received in the 84th minute which led to his sending off.
It’s a shame because the Portuguese defender put together a superb performance up to that point and manager Carlo Ancelotti has reacted quickly to shun the idea that the sending off could have been caused by a lack of focus due to transfer rumours.
“He was unlucky with the sending off, he had a very good game. He's completely focused, he didn't make any errors apart from the sending off. We have to evaluate the entire game he played,” said the Italian after the game.
The comments are a tribute to Coentrao’s professionalism because he’s human and is likely to be aware of the ongoing United speculation following on from a move which nearly happened last summer.
A move to Old Trafford is still possible with Coentrao looking for guaranteed first team football over the next few years and especially over the second half of this season with the World Cup coming up in the summer.
It was a rare start for him last night, refreshing for the 25-year-old because he’s only started four matches for the club in the current campaign.
Ancelotti’s not worried about selecting him for top flight matches in Spain because he’s a solid professional and will play his heart out for the side he’s representing, regardless of anything else which is going on away from the pitch.
Whether he’ll be a Real Madrid player at the end of the month remains to be seen but wherever he is, that team will get the best from him.
