The headline may be oversimplifying things, but if the latest reports regarding Paul Pogba are true, perhaps not.
The Independent today has a story claiming David Moyes has no chance of bringing the French midfielder back to Old Trafford as long as Sir Alex Ferguson remains at the club.
Despite no longer being the manager, Ferguson is now on United’s board of directors, and it is his continuing involvement with the club that will reportedly prevent Pogba’s return.
The reports claims the Juventus midfielder “feels such a deep grievance about the way he was treated by Sir Alex Ferguson that he has ruled out any notion of returning to Old Trafford.”
It then goes on to say that “Pogba’s view seems to be that Ferguson’s continued presence at the club is an impediment to any return.”
While it may simply be another form of speculation in a month full of it, the former United boss certainly did not enamour himself to Pogba by refusing to play him even when his talent suggested he was more than ready.
A quick glance at the development and influence of Adnan Januzaj this campaign shows what a teenager with the requisite talent can do. But if the latest claim is true, United’s new manager will be unable to bring in the perfect midfield solution in part due to the presence of the former one.
So while Ferguson transformed the club at every level, and rightfully deserves his place on the board should he so wish, I have a simple question for you.
Assuming it really was that simple, which it probably is not, would you rather have Pogba on the pitch or Fergie in the stands?
