Ilkay Gundogan has been separated from his Borussia Dortmund teammates.
Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan has been isolated and place in quarantine by the German club owing to bronchitis.
It’s a blow to the 23-year-old midfielder who was making positive progress as he looks to return to competitive action for BVB following a back problem.
“Ilkay Gundogan has been disconnected because of bronchitis – BVB spokesman Sascha Fligge said on Tuesday in La Manga, Gundogan is under quarantine. Gundogan’s roommate Oliver Kirch had already been relocated,” reads a brief summary on Bild’s website.
Dortmund’s next game is against FC Augsburg at home in the Bundesliga on January 25 before a trip to Eintracht Braunschweig on the last day of January and Dortmund will certainly hope that date marks his return, as opposed to fending off big money offers on the last day of the transfer window.
The future of the £24 million Manchester United target remains to be seen but if he has a superb second half of the season at the club, it could prompt BVB to shut up shop after the World Cup as they aim to hang onto him.
The big date as far as BVB will be concerned is February 25 and the last 16 Champions League first leg against Zenit St Petersburg, which will give Gundogan (further injuries depending) another chance to illustrate his quality.
