Some of the greatest performers of the current Premier League season - Manchester City trio Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo and Yaya Toure, Manchester United hotshot Wayne Rooney and Liverpool's unstoppable rebel force Luis Suarez - are all overlooked in the UEFA.com users Team of the Year.
The six aforementioned stars of English football should not feel too aggrieved, though, as not one single Barcelona player featured - even Lionel Messi was absent - in what is a sharp contrast to the official FIFPro XI of 2013 where Xavi Hernandez, Daniel Alves, Andres Iniesta and Messi were all included.
Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, formerly of United, unsurprisingly, is the stand-out footballer in the 2013 UEFA.com XI. The powerful and prolific Real Madrid forward returned a ridiculous 69 goals and 17 assists from 56 appearances (one goal/assist every 52 minutes), winning 40 games, drawing ten and only suffering six losses. Bizarrely, his efforts yielded no trophies for his team.
As striker, Ronaldo is partnered with Paris Saint Germain maestro Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while both will be assisted by Gareth Bale, Marco Reus, the Premier League's sole representative in Arsenal star Mesut Ozil and then Franck Ribery. The defence receive no support from an anchor, but a rearguard of Philipp Lahm, Thiago Silva, Sergio Ramos and David Alaba may well have enough quality to shield Manuel Neuer's goal.
