Liverpool transfer news: Only one signing may arrive, Aspas linked with move away again

A selection of the latest transfer news and more this Wednesday morning.

Liverpool’s transfer dealings this month may only be restricted to attempt to land Mohamaed Salah according to the Daily Mail.

The Mail reports that manager Brendan Rodgers is to hold talks with the club’s hierarchy over the transfer budget for this month, with the Reds boss reported to want a left-back, centre-back, midfielder and a striker during this window – but may have to wait until the summer.

There is yet more speculation surrounding the future of summer signing Iago Aspas according to the Daily Mirror.

Aspas signed from La Liga side Celta Vigo during the summer for £7.7m but hasn’t really made much of an impact and is behind strike duo Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order – with his only goal for the club coming in the FA Cup third round win against Oldham Athletic.

The Mirror reported that Valencia were interested in taking Aspas on loan, but are now saying that Real Betis are interested in the forward.

Brendan Rodgers would like Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling amongst others to bring more goals to the team.

The Reds are the second highest scorers in the league – largely because of Luis Suarez’s 22 goal haul, but Rodgers would like more from other members in the team.

He said: ‘A player with their quality will say they want more goals and obviously I will demand more goals from them. We have also been the top scorers over the last calendar year, so I still think we have enough of a goal threat but in order for Raheem to develop and improve he needs to score more and create more.

‘I think Coutinho will get more too. I look at him as a [Luka] Modric type. And when you look at Modric over four years at Tottenham he got 13 goals [in the league] but his influence was massive and Coutinho is of that type.’

Liverpool’s opponents for the fourth round of the FA Cup have been confirmed. The Reds will travel to the South Coast a week on Saturday to face Bournemouth after they overcame Burton Albion 4-1.
