Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is closing on a return from knee surgery he underwent last October.
FC Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is closing in on a return from a troublesome knee injury which has kept him out of the majority of this season.
However, he’s closing in on a return and Tweeted a picture of himself after going through what he’s described as the hardest pre-season training schedule of his career.
The timing for Schalke couldn’t be better because there is plenty of speculation over the future of Julian Draxler this month, making it important for Jens Keller to have different attacking options for when Draxler eventually leaves.
It’s also great timing from the player’s point of view as he aims to break into the Netherlands World Cup squad for the tournament in Brazil this summer.
Huntelaar has probably missed the boat in terms of a Premier League move, he may not even be bothered but he’s not got a chance to reaffirm his status as one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga following a bad injury.
He may well have been a very good target for the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and even Chelsea this month with all of those sides looking for attacking support but they are never going to gamble on an injured player in one of the most open seasons in Premier League history.
It’s good to learn that Huntelaar is back in training and closing on a return to competitive action but don’t expect any realistic stories over chances of a big Premier League move heading towards the World Cup.
