On the same day Chelsea secured the biggest transfer coup of the winter window thus far, Manchester United target Everton Ribeiro has been subject to a €10m (£8.3m) bid from an English club, as confirmed by the player's agent Robson Ferreira on Brazilian news outlet Lancenet.
'We did bring a 10million euro offer to Cruzeiro for Everton Ribeiro but we won't reveal the club in order not to affect the negotiations, after all they are in the middle of their season,' said Ferreira of the bid.
'We presented the offer to Cruzeiro, we talked and we will schedule another meeting within the next days. The club want to keep him and the player also wants to help the club in the Copa Libertadores. We'll try to merge all the interests.'
Cruzeiro, though, are believed to be holding out for a more handsome offer for the diminutive 24-year-old creative midfielder who lit up the Brasileirao in the last calendar year.
In 34 appearances or 2,756 minutes of competitive league football, Ribeiro returned 81 chances, 1,428 total passes, 66 dribbles, seven goals and 11 assists.
While he participated in a inferior league and completed an entire campaign, his statistics compare favourably alongside the half-season hauls of United's current top four chance creators.

Alexandre Mattos, Cruzeiro's director of football echoed Ferreira's comments: 'An offer from England arrived and Cruzeiro turned it down immediately. Maybe an offer will come that will make Cruzeiro understand it would be a mistake not sell.'
