Chelsea likely to refuse to loan out fringe men as part of Matic deal

Gael Kakuta and Oriol Romeu had been lined up by Benfica as potential makeweights in the deal to take the Serb back to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have reportedly refused to loan out youngsters Gael Kakuta and Oriol Romeu as part of the deal which sees Nemanja Matic return to Stamford Bridge for a reported £22m fee.

The London Evening Standard suggests the Blues will not allow the two youngsters to move out on loan to the Portuguese outfit as a deal for Matic draws closer.

When Chelsea snapped up David Luiz from Benfica in 2011, Matic was used as a £3m makeweight in the deal, which has resulted in a few raised eyebrows at Jose Mourinho and his men buying him back for seven times that amount.

Benfica had seemingly earmarked the likes of Kakuta, recently recalled from a loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem, and Romeu, who is on loan at Valencia, but Mourinho has opted for a straight cash deal.

Matic is all set to join his former employers after being pictured at an airport yesterday evening and will sign a five-and-a-half-year contract before a possible second debut against Manchester United on Sunday.

Do you think Chelsea should have loaned out Kakuta or Romeu to Benfica?
