Chelsea 'expected to' offer two players plus €25m to complete Matic deal - report

Reports in Portugal claim Chelsea could use players plus cash to push through a deal for Benfica's Nemanja Matic.

Nemanja Matic may have stated that he has played his last game for Benfica, but it appears the deal to bring him to Chelsea has not yet been completed.

Reports at the weekend claimed the Serbian midfielder would not even play for his club in their vital league match against FC Porto – something that proved to be untrue – but stories of his return to Stamford Bridge showed no signs of abating.

And now it seems only a matter of time before the 26-year-old heads back to London, this time as a vital component of the Blues squad.

While Chelsea have reportedly offered Benfica €25million for the player, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims his current club are holding out for a little more – in the shape of two current Chelsea players as makeweights in the deal.

It is now expected that Roman Abramovich puts two assets over the amount in cash, as a way of adding value to the transaction,” the report claims.

So who could be on the move?

Could Gael Kakuta be off to Portugal having failed to make an impact in London? And could another of the players currently on loan at Vitesse Arnhem be about to join him?

For now it remains another question in an increasingly tangled transfer window. But hopefully in the days and weeks to come, those questions will have answers.
